There is an AI revolution going on, and if you’re not scared off by all the hype, you might be thinking, ‘my content creation strategy is…use AI!’ You can certainly choose to use AI, but there more to it than just asking an AI tool to write content. Just like the days before you could use AI for SEO, you still need some strategy before you get going, and some legwork once the software creates content for you. Today we go over the basics of integrating AI into your content creation strategy for SEO.
Keyword Targets
There is an art to knowing what keywords are right for your website. If you sell shoes, the keyword you’re looking for probably isn’t ‘shoes’. You need to dig deeper into why users would choose your website. Maybe you specialize in cork-soled men’s loafers. Now you’re getting closer to the kind of keywords you can (and perhaps should) rank for. If you create an article—by hand or using AI—with the keyword ‘cork sole men’s shoes’ you’re much more likely to build rankings for the website. Remember, each page needs a clear, achievable keyword target.
Check Their Work
Rather than think of AI as an infallible genius, it’s a good idea to think of the tools you’re using as a technological aid…or a coworker. If you were in charge of a team of content writers, you would double check their work. Make sure you’re double checking the AI tool’s work as well. Keep an eye out for:
Bad Writing
Incorrect Statements
Off-Topic Content
Keywords You Don’t Want to Rank For
By cleaning up the content once it’s created, you get the best of both worlds: a chance to speed up the writing process and content that is useful.
Evaluate and Iterate
AI speeds up the writing process, but it doesn’t guarantee quality or results. Make sure you’re evaluating the effort as a whole. If you’ve gone from four articles a month to twenty (thanks to AI) is it worth the time? Are you getting 5x the value? Quantity doesn’t make up for quality in the eyes of your users or the Google algorithm, so make sure what you’re doing is a good use of your time. Doing lots of work with AI is not guaranteed to be more useful than a an equal amount of work by a human.
